OURMedia conferences provide a space for the development of knowledge, strategies and collaborations to advance community empowerment, social justice and human rights through grassroots use and control of media and information/communication technologies (ICTs).
Past OURMedia conferences have been organized in the United States (2001), Spain (2002), Colombia (2003), Brazil (2004) India (2005), Australia (2007) and Ghana (2008). These conferences have consisted of scholarly and academic presentations, media activism initiatives, policy workshops, community cultural development roundtable debates, new media labs, research-led forums and engagements by local media producers.
During the meetings in Bangalore (2005), Sydney (2007) and Accra (2008) the participants put together a final statement that summarizes the views expressed at each event. You can read these on the navigation panel.
