Here you can find information about organizing an OURMedia Conference in your town, city or country and references to past conference proposals.
CRITERIA
A proposal to organize an OURMedia Conference should include the following elements:
Ø Reason for organizing OURMedia 8 in your country/city: such as a especially dynamic community media sector, or the need to galvanize local forces around policy issues, or distinctive forms of alternative communication.
Ø Local capacity for organizing OURMedia 8: Who will form the local committee? What experience do they have organizing events? Are they well connected with community/alternative/radical communication practitioners and academics?
Ø Local ability to secure the necessary funding: Recent OURMedia conferences cost approximately US$60,000.00. Although many academics have access to funds from their universities, the local committee (with the help of the international working group) needs to secure funds to cover travel expenses of activists and practitioners, to pay for conference venues, meals, refreshments, fieldtrips, etc.
Ø Degree of commitment of local committee: Organizing an OURMedia conference is a consuming one-year full time task. We need to know that the local committee is truly committed to making the event a reality.
Ø Local costs (hotels, air fares, food, local transportation, etc).
Ø Visa situation (how easy will it be for people from very different parts of the world to secure an entry visa?)
